Having a stressful week Didn't get tickets to The Eras Tour Shake it off at Taylor Takeover! Grab your fellow Swifties for a night full of Taylor Swift's greatest hits at Vintage Rock Club on Friday, March 10.
A dad dance off took place, pitting five dads against each other to see who could perform the best \"stanky leg\" dance. With an overwhelming win, John Glenn band director John Kelsey walked away the winner, to the delight of his daughter.
Mahmet walked around correcting hand positions, giving tips on how to improve, or taking over and showing the dancers how it is done. From the ease at which he performs the moves, it is easy to assume he has been ballroom dancing his whole life.
But Mahmet, like most of the other members of the club, said he had never danced before joining the club as a first-year student. He said the atmosphere and people in the club are what has kept him coming back year after year.
Before the dancers paired off and started dancing together, they split into two groups: leaders and followers. Although the split between leaders and followers are traditionally gender-based, sixth-year student Lochlyn Hejl said everyone is allowed to pick either role.
In addition, Hejl said dancers are free to switch roles between different dances, or even halfway through one dance. Hejl said she started as a leader but decided following was more fun, so she changed and now teaches the new dancers the follower moves.
The club meets twice a week, Mondays and Wednesdays from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the Fitness Center. The first few weeks of the semester typically consists of learning the new dances step-by-step, according to junior Mackenzie Hale, who is in her second year with the club. That schedule helps new dancers learn their moves but also refreshes the returners on what they might have forgotten over the summer.
The club keeps rehearsing the same dances as much as possible because, though Mahmet said they just want people to have fun, there is also an opportunity to compete against other colleges, mostly on the east coast.
There are different levels of competition for ballroom dance, so the members of the club at the college compete against other dancers who have similar skills in the newcomer division. Junior Vanivy Delaney said she and her partner placed high in three dances at a competition in Binghamton last year, which she said was a great experience.
The semester is only a few weeks old, so new members have not quite gotten into the swing of things yet. Whether or not they know any of the dances, Mahmet said he and the other experienced members like Hejl and Delaney will teach them the steps.
While it is beautiful to watch and do, that is not the only reason people keep coming back. First-year student Grace Micheletti credits the energy the leaders bring to the dance floor every practice as to why she wants to stay in the club.
Although Hejl is not on the executive board, she is one of the oldest members of the club and takes on a leadership role regardless. She said she has met some of her closest friends through ballroom dance and she wants to make sure other people can do the same.
By any measure, dancers are the hardest working people in the performing arts (a fact often unacknowledged), with the shortest career spans, as well as some of the lowest levels of salaries and benefits, especially for the many who work on a freelance basis.
The performance was especially touching given that the ever-modest Conte was one of two honorees of the evening. He paid tribute to one of his loveliest founding dancers, Claire Bataille, who not only staged this revival of a work she danced countless times in times past, but spoke eloquently on video of how Dance for Life had helped her with bills during a recent bout with cancer.
Marissa Castrigno was walking through downtown Wilmington, North Carolina, when she spotted the sign in the window of one of her favorite dance clubs. After months of being shuttered by the pandemic, Ibiza Nightclub was reopening April 30, it announced.
Now Ibiza requires patrons to present their vaccine cards or photos of the cards for entry. On reopening night, the club asked customers to wear masks and limited its capacity to 50%, per an executive order from the governor. But as of May 14, the state lifted its capacity restrictions and masking requirements.
Theo is pacing back and forth inside Jungle Karma Pizza. Theo: Where is she Theo glances at the clock on the wall. Theo: 12:05. And then Theo checks his own watch. Fran walks by and Theo grabs her wrist and checks her watch as well. Theo: Is this thing right Fran: No. It's twenty-four hours ahead, it helps keep me on time. Grabbing Fran's wrist cause her to drop her tray and Fran asks Theo why he had cause such a mess. Theo told Fran how he and Lily always check out a restaurant on the second Tuesday of each month. Fran teases Theo about having a standing date with Lily, which Theo denies. RJ walks in and Theo hurries over and asks RJ if he has seen Lily. Dancing a little himself, RJ tells Theo that Lily is showing Casey her dance moves upstairs. Theo takes off.
In the apartment, Lily is showing her dance moves to Casey. Casey is sitting in RJ's chair and enjoying Lily's dance routine. Theo comes in and he is not too happy. Theo asks Lily if she remembers her lunch appointment with him. Lily tells him of course she does. RJ walks in and Casey quickly gets out of RJ's chair. Lily tells the guys she is working on a new dance routine, but it requires three people. One to throw her and one to catch. Casey and Theo begin to argue about who is going to catch her. RJ goes to work on the Claw Cannon. The alarms go off and the teens take off.
The teens return to the apartment. RJ had watched the battle and now wants Lily to give the guys dance lessons to prepare for the next time they run into Stingerella. Theo pips up that he doesn't dance, which is fine with Casey. Seeing this, Theo decides he will take dance lessons as well. Lily gives the guys dance lessons, and Casey and Theo need a lot of work. RJ watches as he works on the Claw Cannon. Eventually Casey and Theo get it and Lily is proud of them until they say no thanks to him.
Stingerella and the Rinshi enter the city once more. The Rangers are soon there as well. This time the Rangers are prepared and easily battle the Rinshi until they are destroyed. The Rangers face Stingerella, when Toady steps forward. Toady forms a force field around him and Stingerella. The Rangers use their Animal Spirits, but they cannot break the force field. Toady knocks the Rangers to the ground. Stingerella is impressed with Toady's chivalry and tells him he is right, they would work well together. Stingerella and Toady happily walk away.
The Rangers quickly go after Stingerella and Toady and catch up to them. RJ sends the Rangers the Claw Cannon. Theo and Lily held the Claw Cannon and began charging it up. Casey battles Stingerella and Toady. Theo and Lily call Casey over, they need him to fire the cannon. But Red Ranger refuses, referring to himself as the new guy. RJ watching from his apartment, can't believe what is happening. The Rangers are defeated. Stingerella is thrilled with their victory. Stingerella jumps into Toady's arms. They walk away talking about marriage and a honeymoon in Vegas.
Punch and treats fueled the sugar-laced excitement as music sent many of the girls, ages 4-12, into a frenzy as dads tried to keep pace. As the night progressed, DJ Louis Lee held dance-off competitions with candy prizes and bragging rights for the winners, giving fathers a chance to take a breather or grab some punch to cool off. Taylor Swift's \"Shake It Off\" was a hit with the girls as their dates circled the dance floor with cameras rolling. Others waited in line for a chance to make some memories at a photo booth with silly props.
Fans won't be the only ones dancing the night away. This event is called the Jaripeo Baile for a reason. Jaripeo is a style of bull riding from central and southern Mexico. Along with the concert, bucking bulls from Rancho San Gabriel will be facing riders like Nino de Batalla, Choche de Nayarit, Tigrito de Tabasco, Chino de Nayarit, Tommy de Dazaca, and Cigarro de Llano Grande.
There will be VIP tables at the event, and two winners who took part in an online raffle will each receive one for the night. The winners will be announced Friday on Rancho El Paraiso's Facebook page @RanchoElParaisoAlabama.
Music is the heart and soul of Anguilla, and you can experience it throughout the island or right on property. We can arrange for live performers, karaoke nights or even vocal lessons at the villa. And make sure to see legendary Bankie Banx perform at his local bar during your stay!
Philanthropy has always been a part of my business, usually in the form of live painting an original during a gala's cocktail hour or donating a print to a silent auction. However, I am excited to announce I will be helping raise money with my feet instead of my hands for an upcoming event in Palm Beach. I am one of thirteen dancers competing in the Cancer Alliance's \"Dance the Night Away Gala\" on April 15, 2023. It is a \"Dancing with the Stars\"-themed event, and all of the money raised helps pay the non-medical bills of cancer patients in Palm Beach County.
The Fred Astaire Dance Studio in West Palm Beach deserves a ton of credit for helping train all of the dancers for this one-of-a-kind evening. Their staff of professional ballroom dancers/instructors are the real deal and continue to blow my mind with their talent! There are locations all over the country if you are interested in dance lessons for a special occasion or just a new hobby. Hope to see you on April 15! 59ce067264
